Latrobe City’s Outdoor Dining Initiative

Supporting local hospitality traders during lock-down

In late 2020, as part of the Victorian State Government’s Outdoor Dining Initiative, we collaborated with the Latrobe City Council to test the concept of creating outdoor dining spaces. This initiative aimed to help expand the commercial area of traders’ premises and address the limitations faced by the hospitality industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We simultaneously activated two of Morwell’s prominent food streets with live music, games and activities for kids, and delicious food from local participating cafes and restaurants.

We only had two weeks to prepare for this project, but we quickly created the necessary event documentation, including COVIDSafe compliance, logistics, planning, and (a smidge) styling.

The event occurred between Saturday 4 November and Sunday 5 November, alongside the town’s International Rose Garden Festival. We encouraged people to grab a bite to eat during the lunch and dinner services before or after attending the festival.
